I found my way into design by chance. I’ve stayed because there’s always something new to learn, make, and figure out.

01 / About me

Professionally Curious.

Professionally
Curious.

I'm Jayson. A designer, creative lead, occasional entrepreneur, full-time curious person, and someone who has made a career out of asking, "What if we tried something different?"

I like solving problems, making complicated things feel simple, and turning ideas into something people can actually experience.

I'm an introvert who enjoys collaborating, an overthinker who loves simplicity, and a creative who believes there's always a better way to do things.

A walking contradiction? Maybe. But somehow, it works.

02 / How it began

It all started with a jeepney ride.

May 1. Labor Day in the Philippines. I was on my way to a job fair, hoping to get a job in tech industry since I was studying Information Technology at the time, so that seemed like the logical next step.

Then I saw the line.

Not just a long line. The kind of line that wrapped around the venue and made you question every decision that brought you there.

I saw it from the jeepney I was riding. And I made a very important career decision. I didn't get off that jeepney.

You see, patience has never been my strongest selling point, especially when it involves standing in line.

Then I remembered something.

My girlfriend at the time, now my wife, had mentioned a job opening for a graphic designer at a company nearby. I thought, "Well, I know how to use Photoshop. How hard could it be?"

So I went there instead. Applied. Got hired.

And somewhere between moving pixels around, figuring out what the heck I was doing, and realizing there was a lot more to design than Photoshop, I fell in love with it.

I went looking for a job in IT and accidentally found a career in creativity.

All because I didn't want to stand in line.

Life is weird like that.

03 / The Creative Journey

From moving pixels to moving ideas.

What started as making things look good eventually became an obsession with understanding why they should look, feel, and work a certain way.

Over the years, I've worn quite a few creative hats: Graphic Designer, Web Designer, Creative Lead, Strategist, and now Design Director.

Some hats fit better than others. Some came with more meetings.

But every role taught me something valuable: great design isn't just about making things pretty. It's about solving the right problems, asking better questions, and occasionally challenging the brief.

These days, I spend just as much time thinking about the why as I do figuring out the how. I enjoy connecting the dots between ideas, people, design, and technology to make things that don't just look good, but actually make sense.

I still love getting my hands dirty in the actual design work, though. You can take the designer into leadership, but you can't take the designer out of Photoshop.

04 / THE PERSON BEHIND THE WORK

Beyond the Artboard.

More Than Just
Layers.

A few things you probably won't find on my résumé.

I'm a husband and a dad. Two roles that have taught me more about patience, negotiation, and crisis management than any leadership workshop ever could.

I'm an introvert. I enjoy meaningful conversations, but I also enjoy not having conversations. It's a delicate balance.

I overthink things. A lot. I prefer to call it exploring every possible scenario before making a decision. Which apparently includes comparing the same two items in my shopping cart for three weeks.

I love coffee. So much that I once decided drinking it wasn't enough and opened a small coffee shop.

I like buying books. Reading them is a separate hobby I’m still working on.

I also co-own a clothing company with two creative friends. Turns out, we enjoy making things so much that we decided to make more things.

I'm curious about almost everything, easily fascinated by things that probably don't matter, and constantly finding new interests to pursue.

Some people call that having too many hobbies.

I call it research and development.

I'm a husband and a dad, which means some of my most important creative problem-solving happens outside work. Usually involving a small human with very strong opinions.

I'm an introvert. I like people, I promise. I just occasionally need to recharge my social battery.

I overthink things. A lot. But I'd like to think that's my brain's way of running quality assurance before anything leaves the building.

Some people collect stamps. Apparently, I collect creative pursuits.
(And shoes. And toys. And perfumes.)

05 / Mindset & Ambition

Permanently
Under
Construction.

Permanently Under
Construction.

I like my comfort zone. I just get bored staying there. After years in the creative industry, you'd think I'd have everything figured out.

Spoiler: I don't.

And strangely enough, I'm okay with that.

I like knowing what I'm doing. Who doesn't? But there's something exciting about figuring out something you know absolutely nothing about. Even if it means questioning your life choices halfway through.

I'm naturally curious, occasionally indecisive, and probably a little too comfortable with making things complicated before figuring out how to make them simple.

But I guess that's what keeps things interesting. There's always something new to learn, a different way to look at things, or another skill I have no business adding to my already questionable list of hobbies.

I'm not trying to have everything figured out. I just want to keep learning, making things, making mistakes, and hopefully getting a little better along the way.

Besides, if that younger version of me had known exactly where he was going, he might have gotten off that jeepney.

And we wouldn't have this story.
